About Candor Intelligence

Independent thinking.
Interdisciplinary research.

A commitment to meaningful progress.

The Founder

Candor Intelligence
was founded by Dakota M.

Candor Intelligence was founded in 2026 by Dakota M., a technology professional with a multidisciplinary background spanning cybersecurity, cloud computing, regulatory compliance, and legal matters.

Currently pursuing a master's degree in Systems Engineering at Harvard University, Dakota founded Candor at the intersection of her technical expertise and a growing interest in the environmental implications of emerging technologies.

Her professional experience has provided a unique perspective on the relationship between technological systems, organizational accountability, regulatory frameworks, and the challenges of translating complex information into meaningful decisions.

How Candor Began

A relatively
straightforward question.

Candor Intelligence originated from a relatively straightforward question: how can organizations independently understand and verify the environmental impact of their cloud computing activities?

The initial concept focused on cloud carbon accounting, emissions attribution, and the limitations of existing reporting mechanisms.

However, as the project developed, the research revealed questions extending beyond the original concept. Understanding environmental impact required examining not only reported emissions, but also the infrastructure, assumptions, methodologies, and operational decisions underlying those measurements.

Rather than continuing to develop a solution around the original premise, Dakota chose to follow the questions wherever the evidence led. That decision marked Candor's transition from a proposed commercial technology platform into a broader independent research initiative.

The Perspective Behind the Research

Where the disciplines
intersect.

01

Cybersecurity

Emphasizes verification, evidence, and the importance of questioning assumptions.

02

Cloud & Systems Engineering

Provides a foundation for examining the technical infrastructure underlying modern AI systems.

03

Compliance & Legal

Introduces another dimension: understanding how transparency, accountability, and regulatory requirements influence the behavior of organizations and the information they make available.

Together, these perspectives inform an approach that considers not only whether something can be measured, but whether those measurements are reliable, meaningful, and capable of supporting better decisions.

Candor operates independently, without the assumption that every research question must lead to a commercial product or that every technological challenge has an immediate solution.

Looking Forward

An evolving,
founder-led initiative.

Candor Intelligence remains an evolving, founder-led initiative. Its direction is informed by ongoing research, emerging evidence, and a willingness to reconsider initial assumptions as understanding develops.

The long-term vision is to contribute to a stronger foundation for environmental accountability in artificial intelligence through independent investigation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research that can inform both technological practices and public policy.

Above all, Candor reflects a belief that responsible innovation requires curiosity, intellectual independence, and a willingness to examine difficult questions — even when the answers are not immediately clear.

A Note from the Founder

I started Candor Intelligence because I wanted to explore questions that didn't seem to have straightforward answers.

My background has taken me through cybersecurity, cloud technologies, compliance, and legal considerations, and one thing I've learned is that understanding a complex system requires looking beyond any single discipline.

When I began exploring cloud carbon accounting, I initially approached the problem from a technical perspective. But the more I investigated, the more I realized that some of the most important challenges involved the intersection of technology, environmental science, organizational accountability, and policy.

Candor has changed considerably since its inception, and I expect it will continue to evolve. I see that as a natural part of the research process.

I'm not approaching this work with a predetermined conclusion. I'm approaching it with questions, a commitment to following the evidence, and the belief that meaningful progress often begins with a willingness to challenge what we think we know.
